Genesis 1:28 - And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Subdue...Have Dominion...Over every living thing...upon the earth.

Pretty strong words, and If God didn't say it, I would think a little over the edge and radical.

But God did say it.  So how should this affect our daily lives?  What impact should this have on our involvment in politics.  Should Christians Subdue...Have Dominion... in governement  and politics?  I think the text is clear.  We are to seek dominion in every area of life.  But why.

Jesus tells us to pray "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)   It is Gods desire that humanity submitt to His authority on the earth in the same way the angels and creation submit to His authority in heaven.  So what does that have to do with us, His Body the Church?  We are the Body. He is the Head of the Body.  The Body is servant to the Head and the Head provides leadership and direction to the Body.  What I am trying to get at here is that God wishes to rule and reign on the earth through His body the Church today.

Consider the following scriptures:

Proverbs 29:2 - When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

Psalms 19:7 - The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul

When will Gods will be done on earth as it is in Heaven?  When his Body the Church is in authority in the land.  How will this happen? Through   Personal, Family, Church, Local, Regonal, and national transformation.  How do we initate personal transformation?   The Apostle Paul advises us in Romans 12 to: "be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind".  As we renew our minds with the word of God we will be able to know what the perfect will of God is.  The Holy Spirit will then guide and empower us in personal change.  How do we initate Family Transformation?

Deuteronomy 6:6,7

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

John the Baptist took on the leader of his day.

He told king Harod, "Your sexual immorality is going to be your undoing." It cost John his head, but he didn't stop speaking the truth.  In GenisisThe bottom line is that we are supposed to influence and occupy until the Lord comes again.

There is this mythology that has grabbed the church by the ankles that says don't have anything to do with politics.   Let's change the verbiage.  Should your relationship with Jesus Christ have any impact on the kind of public policy drafted and the kind of officials that you want to see elected? The answer to that is absolutely.

It is kind of an obvious thing that if Christians withdraw from politics, then by default non-Christians will make the laws.  If we withdraw, then someone else will decide how we live.  It is not a vacuum that we live in.  Somebody is going to occupy that cultural space.   Why shouldnt it be those of us who believe in absolute truth?
I want to encourage you to participate in the republic that God has blessed us with in the United States of America.  It is my goal to make tools available to help you become equipped, informed and empowered to exercise your right and responsibility in our political process.
